I frequently buy a 40lb box of chicken breast from a local meat supplier, usually 2X a year. I usually have to make all of the meat into freezer meals in order to store it. This time, I used my FoodSaver to do anywhere from 2-4 breasts each and it’s been so nice! I can go pull a small or large package out of the freezer whenever I need. The best part, it’s already paid for itself, truly. I love that I can reseal bags of chips or cereal when my family opens everything at one time. I haven’t used the small attachment yet, but I’m excited to try the marinade function this summer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by ebelbw from Retractable hose issues Bought this to replace an old, old FoodSaver Compact. I was interested especially in the accessory bag and container sealer. However, upon using it I quickly suspected that the hose retraction system would not last long. I treated it with kid gloves but my initial suspicion proved correct in short order. It became increasingly hard to retract the hose and it failed after a couple of dozen uses and now the handheld sealer and hose has to be tucked somewhere around the machine, often flopping into the butter or knocking over salt and pepper shakers. I really like the rest of the machine but can’t recommend it due to the problems with the handheld sealer hose retractor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Thecraigmeister from Great machine This is my first vacuum sealer. I wanted a good one and I like the fact I can make custom size bags. If you are going to do a lot of sealing and making your own bags you should make the bags ahead of time. It takes a long time to make the bags and seal them as there is a "cool down" delay. So if you are doing a bunch of sealing you end up waiting a lot of the time for the machine to let you make the next seal. Sometimes it doesn't seal and will just pump. You have to cancel, make the sure bag doesn't have a slight crease and try again. Overall it does the job and seals really well. It just isn't the fastest. I would recommend it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Cherie W from This particular model is the worst This was not my first food saver. My first one lasted a good ten years with me then was given to my son. I only got this one as an upgrade (I wish I didn’t). It takes forever to seal the meat I buy in baulk because it over heats after sealing one bag. It is impossible to clean because the slide drawer does not come out. You have to turn it over and pull out the drawer which gives very little room to work so it doesn’t solve your problem of grime keeping it from drawling the air out. Also trying to clean it upside down caused the lid to break off. I liked my old food saver but I’m tired of fighting with this on. I will think about trying one again if it has better access for cleaning and better suction

I have owned 2 others in 20 years. when i go this one i resealed a couple items in new bags. they have all since lost vacuum. i then went to use the marinade container i had from prior unit which always worked great. This model caused it to implode and fracture, it then did the same thing on on a canister. the product is supposed to detect the vacuum level. apparently not. i have emailed customer service with photos and no response. i gave one star because the site required something

Rated 2 out of 5 by imDarrin from Not performing as expected Purchased this item direct from FS after doing some research, and has not lived up to expectations. It has a difficult time vacuuming all of the air out of FS brand bags, doesn't seal the bags completely, as well as sometimes just flat out will not work: you have to slide the bag in and out a number of times before the sensor will engage the machine. I am hoping FS will reach out to me to rectify this, as I have wasted quite a bit of food, along with a number of their name-brand bags. I will be back with a follow up response to this for those who do read through the comments when researching a purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Lee57 from Sucks I had the older one, I think it’s the hunting one now. It was great. I liked it so well that I didn’t think twice about the price of the new one. I bought 2 one for my kid. If I’m packaging 30 lbs of ground beef I have to wait between each seal sometimes as much as a minute. It can take me as long as 2 hrs to do 30 bags that’s messed up. It seems to be getting worse. I seal a bag end then go to do the next and the red light blinks I turn it off and on a couple of times let it set a minute then go to the next bag. Even slower to seal them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Alaska mom from I orderedthis4800 Food Saver but it does not work I have had Food Saver Sealers when I lived in Alaska and loved it. When I sold m home I had to leave it there. I wanted this Food Savor and was vr disappointed that when I read all the instructions and carefully tried it over and over again, it does not work. The red light goes on , it does not move, the machine does not seal it is grossly defective. I need to know the procedure you required in sending it . I called your company several times with no help.... no interest in assistance .

Unfortunately we are not able to assure how many bags can be sealed during one hour. Sealing time depends on the content of the bas as well as it size. It is also recommended to have at least 20 seconds break between each seal to prevent unit from over heating.

The hose included in the set is not necessary to use the Jar Sealers, this accessory will work with the inbuilt retractable handheld sealer of your unit. Please remove the clear bottom reservoir and attach the tip directly to the Jar Sealer.

FoodSaver&reg; 4800 Series 2-in-1 Automatic Vacuum Sealing System is compatible with Jar Sealers without any additional hose or adaptor. 
You can use your handheld sealer attachment. Simply remove the see-through reservoir to get an access to the second nuzzle that you can use on Jar Sealer.
