(1) Unit is overheated. Always allow 20 seconds between seals. Under heavy usage, appliance will shut off automatically and Seal Light will flash. Wait for 20 minutes for unit to cool off before attempting to use the appliance again.
(2) Latch has been left in Operate position: Gaskets may be compressed. Turn latch to Open or Store position and allow 10 to 20 minutes for Gasket to expand. Latch in Operate position for 5 minutes and not being used reminds you to turn latch to Open or to Store position.
(3) Vacuum pump running more than 120 seconds. Under heavy usage, appliance will shut off automatically and Seal Light will flash.

The Sous Vide Setting is designed to offer an ideal vacuum and seal level for foods that will be cooked by the Sous Vide method. If you do not have this setting, do not fret! You can still successfully Sous Vide cook using FoodSaver Heat-Seal bags and the standard vacuum seal process.
If you notice your bag is losing its seal, inspect the bag to see if there are any small pinholes or punctures and also check to ensure that there isn’t too much liquid in the bag. Also check for wrinkles where the bag is sealed. This is a result of poor bag placement in the machine. To ensure that the bag is properly placed over the heater bar, make sure top of bag is placed within the Removable Drip Tray so that the appliance can create a proper seal.
Pulse Setting allows you to manually control the vacuum level, for optimal control of air removal. This helps prevent crushing of delicate foods such as baked goods or potato chips. Once you are satisfied with the amount of air removed, press the Seal button to secure your bag.
Dry Setting should be your default mode. Only use moist setting when you know you will have wet seals. Dry foods include pantry goods, hard cheeses, and dried fruits that do not have moisture that could compromise the airtight seal.
The Marinate Setting is intended to speed up the Marinate process. It will run a 13 minute vacuum cycle to marinate in minutes instead of hours. The Marinate Setting can only be used with FoodSaver containers specifically built for the marinate function. Everything else will use the Handheld Setting. Please refer to containter instructions and safeguards to determine if your FoodSaver container is compatible with the Marinate Setting.

To troubleshoot sealing issues, start by making sure the bag is properly placed in line with the easy alignment tool so that the top of the bag is placed inside the removable drip tray to ensure a proper seal.
Try closing the lid of the device without a bag or roll in it. Switch on the appliance, and let it run through its complete cycle. Once it’s finished, carefully touch the sealing bar. If it’s cool, there may be something wrong with the sealing bar. Please contact our customer service team in this instance. If the sealing bar heats up, the problem is likely with one of the two gaskets. Check both of these (instructions on how to identify the gaskets can be found in the Owner's Manual) for any cracks, dents or food particles. It’s a good idea to remove the lower gasket and give it a good clean. You can also purchase a replacement lower gasket on the FoodSaver website. However, if the problem is with the upper gasket, you will need to contact our customer service team.
Make sure latch is in the Open position and open the lid. Make sure there is enough bag material to reach the center of the Drip Tray. Always allow 3 inches (7.62cm) of headspace to alow the bag to seal tightly.

Ensure that you have placed the handheld on the valve of the zipper bag or container BEFORE pressing handheld button. Make sure your built-in Handheld Sealer is properly placed over Valve of Bag or Container and held in position. Double-check that gaskets are not damaged; this may cause a leak in the Vacuum Chamber resulting in lack of proper Vacuum pressure. Make sure to always hold the handheld device in the upright position while in operation. It is designed with a “float” mechanism to stop the flow of air if an excessive amount of liquid is pulled into the reservoir. Turning the handheld on its side or upside down can cause this float to activate, blocking the vacuum port so that the air will not be removed from the bag or container.

If the vacuum pump runs without pulling or sealing, make sure you’ve allowed enough room at the top of the bag (3 inches). Ensure that you have placed the open end of the bag within the drip tray. Also, check to see that the top of the bag is flat without wrinkles. Double-check that Gaskets are all clean and free of tear (both top and bottom), it is recommended to wipe with a wet cloth. If none of the above work, place food into a new bag as the original bag may be damaged or have a hole in it. This can also occur if the machine seal bar has overheated, which will cause the appliance to pre-seal the bag before all of the air has been removed. Wait several minutes for unit to cool down before trying again.
You would use the Moist Setting if you are attempting to seal foods (not soups or sauces) that have any liquids or possible moisture in the bag. To seal food items such as soups and sauces, please pre-freeze before sealing. This changes the seal level for type of food - moist or dry. Liquids can be drawn up by the vacuum process and liquids between the layers of the bag can have a cooling effect on the heat seal. Adjustable Food Settings Seal Level can extend the seal time to compensate for liquid and create a secure, reliable and air-tight seal.
