Finally got to use it on 07/28/2018. Worked great, takes getting used to making bags of the right size. The only problem I encountered was when it cuts the bag, it is very noisy. I can live with that for the convenience.

We are wondering if the automated vacuum gauge is indeed allowing all the vacuum that both fish and meat can tolerate? and also if it would be more advisable to freeze the items first and then seal them to further avoid small air pockets? We love the marinating canister- we are trying it right now- and all of the other canisters- such a great way to be mindful of plastic use!

I was just looking to buy another one. Now they're listing it on their Website for $370???? Are you kidding me. I'm so appalled by the company seemingly taking advantage during the COVID-19 pandemic that I won't likely ever buy any of their products again. Disgusting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Shultzie from Best machine I've used so far. I have had 3 or 4 food sealers and this one is my favorite. It seals fast and completely. The las one I had was a cheapie foodsaver and did not remove all of the air and did not seal completely. This one mainates and seals and is far superior to the cheaper model. The old adage "you get what you pay for" holds true here. I would buy this one again. It does take a learning curve for the automatic bag dispenser so you do not waste bag rolls, but you can learn that quickly.

Super easy to use and works GREAT!

Every last bit of air is vacuumed from the bag before it is sealed. The only objection that I have is that it tends to crush fragile baked goods. I freeze bread and cookies before I bag and seal them. my only frustration is that I cannot use the food saver to seal cookies that are a bit fragile even after I have frozen them. as I thought about the cost of replacement bags and rolls I realize that I was using large amounts of aluminum foil and Ziploc freezer bags to freeze my baking, etc. Those are also costly and do not vacuum seal. to me the cost of using food saver bags is not that much higher than the foil and Ziploc bags

I'm assuming eventually it will break altogether. Sometimes when trying to insert the plastic to be sealed it doesn't always work right.

Worked great until one day it didnt want to work anymore. I'm not sure, but I think a component on the board may have gone bad. Customer service agreed that there was nothing that could be done and that it was not performing as it should. We packed up the unit and sent it back and just received a new replacement but different model. Appers the only difference on the replacement model is that it does not have powered bag feed/retract feature, but that's okay. Just opened it and haven't put it through places yet, but I am pleased with the customer service. They added value to the brand and the product by standing by it and their warranty 100%. I just wish I had a working model 2 weeks prior to seal the fish we caught.

Simply put a roll of bags in the machine and it seals the one end, load your product, turn it around and finally seal the other end. The whole process takes about one minute. The family that received the machine vacuum packed 40 pounds of chicken in an hour or two with two people operating the procedure. I would recommend not only this machine but any Food Saver product. This is our second machine in possibly 20 years.

I filled out a contact form. I did not get a response. I tried live chat and it is bot working. The 800 number refers you to the contact us page. Please let me know of a way to actually contact you. I really need my sealer during these covid times.

This was a replacement for another model that stopped after 2 years. When phones are up in FL will ask for a replacement. It seems this unit stops working as reflected the reviews. They need to fix the problems before selling. I like the brand but not this model with it's problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Norma Short from My favorite go to appliance for food storage! I purchased the FoodSaver 5800 Vacuum Sealer around Thanksgiving and absolutely LOVE it! The main reason was to save more money from the foods or meals already prepared, to buy bulk items that are a tremendous savings and for those items not to spoil too quickly before consumption. Being a single person household, so much food has gone to waste over the years. Not just the fact that perfectly good food was spoiling way too fast, however, also the fact that each food item thrown away, was like throwing dollar bills into my trash compactor. Money that could better spent somewhere else. The reason I chose the FoodSaver 5800 series model, was for the simplicity and height to vacuum and seal a bag easily no matter the contents. I'm able to lay the food filled bag flat on the countertop, and just insert the open end into the machine and the machine automatically detects the bags and it vacuum seals in one easy step. This is important to an older person, to make kitchen tasks as easy as possible. I am also using the accessory sealer attachment for so many jobs, too many to list. However, since purchasing the FoodSaver storage containers, I'm using my FoodSaver machine several times a day! From leftovers, cheese and deli items, to berries and staple food items used less frequently. I've saved more than the cost of the machine in the past 2 months!!! This doesn't include emergency items I've sealed for dry storage, since I'm living in a coastal area that can be prone to hurricanes. I'm still discovering new uses every day and have now splurged on the expandable bags, marinating containers, and even signed up for auto ship, as to make sure I never run out of the vacuum sealer rolls. Now, I can't imagine my kitchen without the FoodSaver 5800. It's become a vital part of my every day go to, and for making life much more enjoyable and tasks flow with ease. Of course, I can't complain about the extra money I now have each month and the fewer trips to the grocery store or the need for grocery delivery. FoodSaver, thank you so much for creating this easy to use vacuum sealer with the consumer in mind, and oh, did I mention, it makes individual bags and also auto dispenses the roll feed!!! 5 STARS to FoodSaver!!!

Unlike any other company I have ever dealt with, they will not send you another product until you pay for shipping and they receive your unit. Which means it will be a couple of weeks until it is replaced. I have dealt, over the years, with manufacturers of much more expensive products and they always ship out a replacement and then you use that packaging to return the defective unit. I don't mind paying the shipping but seriously, how hard do you want to make it on your customers? The after sales service will make me think twice about the 5 additional units I was about to purchase for my kids.

I have given each of my daughter sealers from Food Saver and I also have the Game Saver Titanium sealer that I just love. I would highly recommend this one to everyone.

My wife seals her fruit and salad every week and it is just as crisp as the day she put it in. First machine lasted just over 5 years and then started to act up. Bought this machine and it is even better than the 1st one. Very happy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Deedeemack from So far so good This is my 2nd Food saver. My original one is over 15 years old, it still works great I just wanted the newer features & a better look. My older model is big white and flat, it takes up a lot of counter space so I always kept it put away which ultimately meant I rarely used it because I would have to go out to the garage and fish it out. Since my new one is on the counter I use it a lot!! I love the look of my new one, it matches my kitchen and I like the sleek design. I still need to work on perfecting the vacuum & seal feature is more tricky than my other sealer bit the seal feature by itself it's very simple to use & I love the pull out attached pump for marinating or sealing the Ziploc style bags. (I know I'll eventually get good at the vacuum seal) I highly recommend it.

I treated myself to this system 2 years ago. It’s absolutely phenomenal still today. The automatic feed and seal feature has saved me many headaches and hand-aches. The hand vacuum for the marinating or vacuum canisters are so convenient! When this one decides to ever give up on me, I will purchase another !

Rated 5 out of 5 by michelle456532156 from Simple to use and does it all I bought a foodsaver 17 years ago on QVC (I think my first and last TV purchase) - because I knew it looked cool - turns out i was right as you can now find them at Costco, my favorite store because they only carry high quality products. I digress. My machine finally died and I'm glad it did. It turns out FoodSaver has been very busy these past 17 years. What i love about this model: I can vacuum seal tupperware very simply, I can create a bag and zip seal it all at once - HUGE improvement, you can remove that nasty tray filled with meat juice and throw it in the dishwasher. My only complaint is that it is huge. I would love a smaller version but I bought the bigger one for all of its features and it was worth it. Luckily I am able to store it in the cabinet so it's not the end of the world. I would highly recommend this unit and think it's definitely worth the price.

Even tried adding extra food for leftovers thinking perhaps I hadnt filled it enough. I will be sending it back as soon as I can get a ride to shipping place. Really hate to give it up for a couple of weeks while return and replace is done. Like the dispense and rewind and love the double bags. Perfect size for portions for a single person or lunch or maybe that picky child that wont eat whst you make for yourself.

Also, when trying to seal, half the time the bag won't trigger the sealer to start, very frustrating and wish I had never bought this model. Had a game saver model for 15 + years, put hundreds of lbs of meat, fish and other goods thru it, that was an awesome machine!! I wouldn't recommend this model to anyone!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Big Deal from Does Not Last! I bought the 5860 in early 2017, it did not work when I plugged it in. Received a replacement after I returned it (more then two weeks later). The replacement lasted about three weeks before it quit,(two more weeks). The third lasted until the end of July of 2020, and as of 9/12/2020 after many many phone calls and emails I an going to receive a refund in 10 to 15 days. I will purchase a different unit this time.

As much as we loved to, we may need to have the machine at hand to identify the date it was manufactured. The way we can find out is by checking the Date Code, which is located and engraved at the end of the metal prong of the power cord.
