FoodSaver® V3440 Vacuum Sealer
Skip this model
I bought this vacuum sealer and started using it right away, the same night. I was very impressed, as it was extremely easy to setup and use. It worked great through the entire roll of material that came with it. Then it simply stopped working correctly. Either it wouldn't vacuum the air from the bag before sealing, or it simply wouldn't operate at all. I would push the bag in, and nothing would happen. Thinking it was a faulty unit, I took it back to the store and exchanged it for a new one.
Same story with the second unit. It worked great for 15 bags or so, then stopped vacuuming. I'm taking this back for a full refund, and will try a different model.

Another Excellent Product
A very amazing product! works so well (it's almost too much fun) makes a person want to go and buy extra meat and such because you know it's going to be just as "fresh" as the day you bought it in all respects, especially that beautiful fresh red color for the meat! our family also does lots of fishing, and the portion pouches are great for our 'pan fish', it draws all that air out that causes (especially fish) to rapidly freezer burn, I have fish over 6 months old and they still look like the day they were caught, with no condensation, makes ID'ing the fish a snap! Just can not say enough about my Unit! (these units really sell themselves) (also works well with our dehydrated foods I make for camping/hunting) sooo many uses!

I love this
I bought this after having two Seal-A-Meal's break down on me in less than a year.
I love using it. I love the bag storage, the bag slicer, the looks. It is great quality and I will never have a different brand.
The only problem I had, which I am sure was me, is that I had a hard time getting it to start on its own a few times.
I was using a different brand bag that was left over from the other brand.
Food Saver bags are so much better also.

Money in my pocket
I purchased the three Food Savers as Christmas gifts for family members for this coming Christmas. Therefore I am not qualified to review them. But MY Foodsaver was purchased many, many years ago and is still a life saver as well as a money saver. I use it constantly and IF it ever does expire, I will definitely purchase another.

newer model is NOT always better......
a new vacuum sealer was needed so bought this model one year ago. It worked great the first few months, however it got to the point where it seals when it wants to. Wish we had stayed with the older model, it worked flawlessly and the price was a lot lower.

Stick to the Basics
I was given a FoodSaver as a gift and loved it. It was a basic model and was heartbroken when it needed to be replaced. I was confident that my new would work as well. I was WRONG!!!! It worked okay for a while. Then it became extremely difficult to use. Won't seal bags to make custom bags. When trying to seal a bag after use, it doesn't seal. Trying to get it to operate at all is difficult. It's back to the basics for me.

The sealing bar does overheat when sealing a lot.
This is a good looking product that is easily stored on the counter for ready use because of its upright design. It vacuums and seals easily and well. However, the sealing bar overheats rapidly when sealing several packages at a time and shuts down the unit. We frequently buy whole pork loins or beef loins for strip steaks. When these are cut into chops or steaks there are several packages to seal at one time. Because of the rapidity in which the sealing bar overheats, it takes much longer to vacuum and seal the packages. One has to open the unit and allow the bar to cool. It takes 15 to 20 minutes before it can be used again. It usually takes more than an hour to bag and seal the chops or steaks. If this unit did not overheat as rapidly, I would certainly give it a 5 Star rating.
