Fresh from Field to Freezer - to Your Table!


Vacuum packaging is a great solution for transporting game. Simply place vacuum packaged game in a cooler with ice or cold packs. It won’t smell, and it will be tidier and more effective than paper wrapping.

Prior to storing, keep meat as cool as possible to avoid spoilage. Vacuum seal and freeze deer, elk, wild turkey, duck and any other game in individual or family-size portions. For added zest, marinate meats before freezing with the FoodSaver® Quick Marinator accessory which uses the vacuum system to let you marinate in minutes instead of hours. After marinating, remove meat from the Quick Marinator and vacuum seal in a FoodSaver® bag. Mark each package with the date for easy reference later and freeze.

You will conserve freezer space and virtually eliminate freezer burn while you and your family enjoy fresh tasting game for months – even years!

Wade Middleton, acclaimed outdoorsman, offers a few helpful tips for getting the most out of your FoodSaver® GameSaver® system.

  • Having a sealed change of clothes can be a lifesaver when you’re in the field. Seal and protect other items essential to a successful outdoor adventure as well, including maps, matches and cameras.
  • When traveling in remote locations, meal planning is important. Use the FoodSaver® GameSaver® system to marinate and pack meats for the trip, saving space and ensuring good meals along the way.
  • For longer trips, keep vacuum-sealed meat cool and fresh using dry ice covered with a towel on the bottom of the cooler.

Chipotle Venison Burger
Makes 4 servings
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground venison (preferably mixed with some 20% fat ground beef)
  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 cup yellow onion, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chipotle chilies with adobo sauce, minced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 slices pepper jack cheese
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 sturdy burger buns or Kaiser rolls
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 4 large lettuce leaves
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 slices tomato
Cooking Directions:

Combine ground venison with next 7 ingredients and mix well. Form into 4 patties about 3/4-inch thick. Place on a white-hot, well-oiled barbecue grill and brown evenly on both sides, about 4 minutes per side. Melt cheese over top before removing from grill. Place in buns with lettuce, tomato and your choice of condiments.
